HISTORICAL-PEDAGOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE DEFINITION «TOLERANCE»

Abstract

The article deals with the issue of tolerance in the works of foreign and Ukrainian researchers in historic ontogeny, through the prism of different scientific fields and from the point of view of numerous scientific approaches and aspects. It is found out that the phenomenon of “tolerance” is a complex multi-aspect interdisciplinary category, studied by many modern scholars. Moreover, each author interprets the definition in a different way. The unity of understanding the essence of tolerance by modern researchers is established to be the following: the phenomenon of tolerance is mainly considered as a personal trait; a feature of the relations between people; an ability to understand individual differences, to respect the right of others to be as they are.
