Abstract

The historicity of anthropological studies (A gloss on the basis of the remarks of Claude Lévi-Strauss) In the opinion of many scholars working in the fi eld of so-called “anthropology of the contemporary,” there is a deep conviction that historical knowledge is redundant in solving the problems with which their discipline is concerned. As a result, anthropology is shown in opposition to historical studies, or even historicity. The author disagrees with this opinion, claiming that it requires a thorough review. Citing the fi ndings of Claude Lévi-Strauss, he shows a dual historicity of the area in question, which is revealed both in the features of ethnographic practices and ethnological studies. He concludes that historicity is an immanent element of the research optics of cultural anthropology, inherent to the fundamental, although today often forgotten, ultimate goal of this discipline.
