Hodunova N. B. Functions of colour naming in G. Byng’s novel “Molly Moon’s Hypnotic Time Travel Adventure”

Abstract
Authors study the specific ways in which colouronyms are used in children’s literature, caused by the necessity to consider intellectual, cultural, mental and other peculiarities of their addressees. It has been pointed out that colour lexemes are used as descriptive units but also perform pragmatic functions. The basic symbolic meanings of colouronyms have been outlined. Their structure and functions have been analysed. The role of colour naming in G. Byng’s children’s novel ‘Molly Moon’s Hypnotic Time Travel Adventure’ has been stated.
