Home diagnostics: a snapshot of public views in the state of Andhra Pradesh, level of awareness and use

Abstract
Even though the public are better educated than earlier with their health conscious through awareness and demonstration camps they averse to attend clinical labs for petty diagnostic tests since it costs much apart from consuming their valuable time. To solve this situation introduction of home diagnostic kits among the people through voluntary organizations accompanied by qualified pharmacists and doctors by holding awareness camps, with the demonstration of available latest electronic media by involving the representatives of local bodies as well as primary health centers located at mandal headquarters and sub centers at village level. A cross sectional study was carried out in the different parts of Andhra Pradesh namely Guntur, Krishna and prakasm districts from 1st June 2013 till 31st November2013. The studies revealed that despite the people are having positive attitude towards the utility and immense use of the home kits lack of adequate knowledge about their handling and sheer negligence of their proper maintenance and poverty to purchase them are some of the vital causes and bottle necks which hinder them to involve in this endeavor. Therefore there is constant dire need of holding awareness camps to imbibe confidence and adequate knowledge about the instant benefits and immense utility and proper handling and systematic up keeping of the said kits.
