Abstract
The article is devoted to clarifying the essence and content of social control and legal order in the philosophical and legal views of M. Montaigne, F. Petrarch and N. Machiavelli. The approaches of scientists to the definition of the category of the legal order are analyzed. It has been established that in the Renaissance the gradual politicization of public order is taking place and relations between civil society and state power are gradually beginning to form as a form of social control.
