“I” of the author of the 12th century: rhetoric and subjectivity of medieval literature

Journal Title: UNKNOWN - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue

Abstract

This article attempts to answer a series of questions relevant to the study of medieval literature: is it possible to create a typology of the medieval “I” and to distinguish rhetorical use of personal constructions from more subjective types which was the author's “I” in the 12th century. Is it possible to talk about subjectivity of medieval literature, and, if so, how is it expressed?
