Ichtiofauna rzeki Tanew i jej dopływów

Abstract
The abundance and distribution of fish species were investigated in the River Tanew (San River tributary, Vistula River system). Altogether 1404 individuals representing 23 fish species were collected by electrofishing conducted at 33 sites in 2005 and 2007. The high water quality in the upper part of the Tanew system caused the dominance of brown trout, dace and spirling in the fish assemblage. Although dominance of brown trout is a result of stocking, the distribution and abundance of other obligatory riverine species, such as nase and barbel is strongly restricted. Meanwhile, in the lower part of the Tanew River the low fish abundance can be a result of a weir located 0.5 km upstream from the outflow to the San River preventing recolonisation by upstream fish migration. The analysis of rarity revealed that only pike does not fit into any of the Rabinowitz categories. In the whole river system only one alien species, i.e. prussian carp, was noted.
