IDEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF «ISLAMIC STATE» AS FACTORS IN THE FIGHTING OF TERRORISM

Journal Title: Наукові праці. Серія "Політологія" - Year 2018, Vol 314, Issue 302

Abstract

The article attempts to analyze terrorism as «non-traditional» threat to modern international security on the example of the «Is-lamic State». The ideological and organizational foundations of this terrorist organization as factors in the fight against terrorism were identified. The Islamic state has received the status of a security threat at the regional and global levels in connection with the involvement of the militants of the organization in the Syrian crisis. This terrorist organization has the aim not only conduct the ter-rorist acts, but capture territories for the development of a state-caliphate. The authors arrived at a conclusion about the specifics of the ideology of the «Islamic state», which is based on the ideas of Takfiri. The members of this group are Salafis and use jihad as a leading tool in the struggle against the West world and non-Muslim countries. The peculiarity of the «Islamic state» has become the organizational structure in the format of state formation and the goal – to establish a universal caliphate based on Sharia. «Islamic State» has a number of characteristics that distinguish it from other organizations, for example, «Taliban». Both groups are local-ized military organizations, however, the «Taliban» professes the idea of the Deoband movement within Sunni Islam that arose in South Asia, but Jihadists of the «Islamic State» mainly belong to the Wahhabi confession. At the present stage, the struggle against the «Islamic State» is conducted both on the global (UN) and the regional (Islamic military coalition) levels. Therefore, the commu-nity in the fight against the terrorist threat should take the specific features of this organization into account.
