“IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME”: THE SITUATION OF CATHOLIC WOMEN IN PERU BEFORE AND AFTER THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL
Journal Title: Social Innova Sciences - Year 2021, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
This article will briefly review the relationship between the Catholic Church and secularism in Latin America. For this, a summary of the secularization process followed by the societies of Latin America —and, in particular, Peru— and of the counter-reforms promoted by the Catholic hierarchy, until arriving at the Second Vatican Council, will be elaborated. About this event, which meant a true process of inculturation of the Catholicism in modernity, a balance will be established that allows showing its theological and ecclesiological impact within Catholicism. Finally, it will be shown how in the following years the formation of a feminist theology has been allowed that proposes a greater participation of women in the formal structure of the Catholic Church and in decision-making, in addition to the appearance of a critic within the female laity.
