Inclusive leadership for inclusive education – the Utopia worth working towards
Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2011, Vol 10, Issue 2
Abstract
Inclusion is high on education agenda of many European countries. It is stated policy by many governments. Inclusive education is an ideal – a Utopia that seems worth aiming for. To get beyond the rhetoric so that practice matches policy requires effective inclusive leadership. The way in which leaders choose to lead may be less or more inclusive. This is determined by their values, know-ledge and skills and competencies. All of these can be learned developed in existing and aspiring leaders. If the Utopia of inclusive education is to be approached then leaders have to aim for this and importantly operate in inclusive ways.
