Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2010, Vol 9, Issue 2

Abstract

Trust is the subject of numerous research in the fi eld of sociology, psychology, economics, as well as the theory of organisation and management. The article examines the relations between the economic result and trust level, signifi cance of leadership, situations of uncertainty, function of trust in periods of change, influence of trust on the involvement, relations between trust and organisational behaviours, as well as factors favouring the appearance of trust. Some organisations have even developed special programmes dedicated to trust building in their external and internal relationships. Trust is an element of social capital, an organisational resource influencing an organisation’s economic result. It constitutes a foundation for social interactions and is a state manifesting itself by positive expectations concerning the motivation for other people’s behaviour. The paper discusses the notion of trust, theory of organisational values and relations between various organisational values. It presents relations between trust and justice, satisfaction, involvement, as well as work efficiency. The author shows that trust may be an organisational value which along with other values builds a system being a part of organisational culture. The conclusions may be applied in the process of trust building in an organization and of developing programmes that serve the analysis of organisational values. The article should facilitate better understanding of mutual dependencies between particular values.
