Influence of Diesel Engin Valve Train on Gear Cover Noise

Abstract
The noise from the front gear cover of a four-cylinder agricultural diesel engine was studied by near field sound method.The valve train noise of front gear cover was separated from the whole noise of the engine by the experimental method.The contribution of valve train noise to the gear cover noise of the diesel engine was calculated.The noise radiation area distribution of the gear cover was illustrated by modal test and sound intensity test. The results indicate that higher noise is from valve train at low speed, and this value keep constant at higher engine speed. The shock force of valve train causes the natural frequency vibration of gear cover and larger noise at these frequencies.The lower stiffness of fuel pump cover causes higher noise.
