Influence of extrusion parameters of oil expeller prototype on the oil temperature obtained from seeds of Camelina sativa L.

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2012, Vol 33, Issue 2

Abstract

Camelina sativa is an oil plant with fine seeds. Even though the fat content is not as high as in other oil plants cultivated in Poland, since it reaches 28–41%, it is an alternative to other oilseeds taking into account the possibility of its cultivation on low quality soils and the necessity of only marginal agricultural treatments.. One of the most important factors limiting the common use of oil from Camelina sativa seeds is their relatively small size. The small diameter of seeds, is a big problem for the extrusion of oil by most often used screw press oil expellers. To solve this problem the Industrial Institute of Agricultural Engineering in Poznań in co-operation with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, worked out a new construction of the device designed for extruding oil from Camelina sativa seeds and other oil plants producing fine seeds. This paper presents the results of comparative tests of oil extruding from whole and crushed seeds of Camelina sativa L.
