The influence of the storage of selected vegetable oils on kinetics of decreasing photochemiluminescence

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2010, Vol 31, Issue 2

Abstract

The kinetics of decreasing photochemiluminescence (CL) in oils from seeds of evening primrose (Oenothera paradoxa H.), borage (Borago officinalis L.), rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) and blueweed (Echium plantagineum L.) was examined. Oils were exposed to radiation of UV-A (315–400 nm) immediately after pressing and after half-yearly storage in refrigerator (4oC). The character of decay of chemiluminescence was determined and displayed on CCD camera. The constant velocity of chemiluminescence (CL) decay, half-life period and the amount of radiated energy were calculated. In investigated oils the composition of aliphatic acids, the content of unsaponifiable matter, peroxide value, colour, the content of pigments from carotenoid group and chlorophylls were determined. These parameters have influence on photooxidation and decay of CL. Our method of examination of decreasing chemiluminescence kinetics is an alternative to well known analytic methods and so far has not been used to determine the deterioration level of oils.
