Influence of occlusal factors on complete denture stabilization

Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2016, Vol 66, Issue 2

Abstract

Properly made dentures have good stability and retention. Stabilization is defined as resistance of a denture to horizontal and rotational forces to protect it against movements. This is achieved by adjusting the dentures to the neutral zone and through balanced occlusion. Occlusal conditions are different in natural dentition and in dentures. There are many theories how to set teeth in complete dentures to provide the patient with the most comfortable usage. The theories of setting the teeth can be divided into static and dynamic, and their modifications. All of them are designed to balance the occlusion and provide aesthetic appearance accepted by the patient. The article presents various methods of setting artificial teeth in complete dentures and their impact on the stability of the prosthesis.
