INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF FILLER IN GREASE– –THICKENER COMPOSITION ON LUBRICATION EFFICIENCY

Abstract
These investigations concern the influence of the type of filler in grease modified with solid oils on lubrication efficiency in steel sliding nodes working in mixed lubrication. Based on preliminary works, two commercial greases were used for analysis: car-grease 1S with lithium thickener and grease Maszynowy with calcium thickener. Investigated compositions were obtained by the addition 4% by weight of analysed filler (solid oil, i.e. disulfide of molybdenum, PTFE, graphite and cuprum) to grease. The tests were carried out in agreement with the prescriptions of the Polish standard PN-76/C-04147 “The tests of properties of oils and greases.” To assessment of lubrication efficiency of the tested compositions three criteria were used (wear characteristic as the function of load d = f(F), seizure load Fz, limit wear load index Goz). Investigations were carried out using a four–ball extreme pressure tester. The results were statistically handled at a confidence level of 95% using Student’s t-test. Results are presented on graphs. Proper conclusions are given.
