Information and communication technologies in mining: process control system

Abstract

The use of information and communication technologies in mining makes it possible to bring the activity of the enterprise to a qualitatively new level. This is confirmed by the experience of implementation of the process control system R5.02 at the mining company Shell. The R5.02 Extended Monitoring and Evaluation Platform is a software package that combines advanced technology management technologies developed by Shell and real-time management technology developed by Yokogawa as a management system vendor. The use of this platform allows customers to optimize the management of technological operations at all their enterprises, while providing a high level of operational readiness of computing systems, reducing the burden on operators and increasing the overall productivity of the personnel of the mining company. Yokogawa believes that the technology of augmented reality or “Industrial Real Estate” (Industrial AR) and is currently working with its customers on the development and improvement of this technology can help solve the problem of errors due to the human factor, expect to increase the safety and efficiency of work, performed on the site. Using the technology of the augmented reality allows not only to help the company employees to carry out production operations, but also to use these technologies in the preparation of future engineers in the conditions of the university. Professional training of future engineers on the basis of the use of technologies of augmented reality allows more precisely to include students in the production processes of the mining enterprise and to integrate them into future professional activities. The system of control of technological processes R5.02 implemented in the work of the company Shell allows to realize a number of functions, among which it is possible to allocate: multi-parameter control with realization of possibilities of forecasting; obtaining virtual measurements and individual setting options. The use of this system allows us to bring the enterprise to a modern level, which is characterized by efficient production and a high level of environmental safety. The global experience has shown that at the present stage without introducing management information technologies, it is almost impossible to produce high-quality goods, to find and advocate sales markets, and to provide environmental protection measures. High efficiency of mineral deposits development is achieved through the use of information systems in all areas of mining enterprises. The main requirements for the elaboration of information systems for the subsequent development of the informatization of mining production are considered.
