INITIATION LOCAL ACCUMULATIONS OF METHANE SHOCK WAVE IN THE AIR ACCIDENTAL EXPLOSIONS IN MINES

Abstract

Purpose. Improving the safety of emergency work in mines with the risk of explosions and mine atmosphere by tak- ing into account the initiation site impact of explosion and combustion regime in the safe distances calculation. Mathe- matical simulation of the mine atmosphere ignition and combustion phase processes in mines. Methodology. Mining excavation has been modeled with cylindrical channel. Inside the channel, in the computational domain, it is a site filled with methane environment (at the dead-end wall). At some distance from this area is the area of thermal explosion, which is the source of the air shock wave. The problem has been solved by using the method of numerical account of gas dynamics equations in the system, "methane mixture – the environment". To implement accounting combustion energy the calculation scheme of total chemical kinetic equation combustion reaction mixture of methane and oxygen in the air has been used. The chemical reaction is represented as a gross scheme (generalized kinetic mechanism): CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H2O. Results. Visible effects of initiation have shown a strong influence of gas dynamics on the kinetics of chemical reactions explosive combustion that matches the thermal mechanism of ignition and combustion in detona- tion transition. Originality. For the first time it has been solved the task of initiating local shock wave, methane concen- trations in the conditions of mine workings. The technique is based on the simultaneous solution of equations of gas dynamics and chemical kinetics of combustion methane-oxygen in the air by a numerical method. Practical value. In numerical experiments the revealed patterns of methane local accumulations initiation in a mining allowing to increase the efficiency of methods for calculating safe distance in emergency explosions have been found out.
