Interaction between Sclerotinia sclerotiorum virulence and important crop's resistance

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 9

Abstract

In order to study on pathogen virulence and plant resistant interaction, out of more than 400, 30 isolates obtained from different hosts including lettuce, sunflower, cabbage, rape-seed, tobacco, soybean and artemisia were selected based on their hosts and geographical distribution. Greenhouse studies on the sensitivity of important host crops, including sunflower, lettuce, soybean, rape-seed and cabbage was investigated using diameter of spots, which produced by inoculation of fungal mycelium on the leaves. The multiple analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences (P<0.05) among virulence of host populations, susceptibility of plants and interaction between pathogen × plant. Comparison of mean values using Fisher's LSD (The Least Significant Difference) multiple range test (P ?0.05), located 35 combinations of pathogen × plants 12 homogenous groups. The highest and lowest pathogenicity observed in tobacco (pathogen) × sunflower (plant) and lettuce (pathogen) × cabbage (plant) combinations. These results demonstrated high variation in this factor. Component variance analysis estimated that the effect of isolate pathogenicity, plant susceptibility and pathogen × plant interaction were 31%, 41% and 28%, respectively. Furthermore, plant resistant plays most important role in severity of sclerotinia stem rot.
