INTERACTION OF ALTERNATIVENESS WITH OTHER SEMANTIC CATEGORIES AND ITS REALIZATION IN THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE
Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 22
Abstract
In the article the interaction of alternativeness with other semantic categories in the Russian language is described in the framework of the language–mind–reality relation through the contextual analysis of the conjunction, expressing the meaning of alternativeness. The language means conveying the meaning of other categories may occupy the positions of homogeneous elements of the sentence connected by these conjunctions and/or perform other syntactic functions. Due to this interaction various types of alternativeness appear, namely, temporal, aspectual, voice, modal, quantitative, comparative, possessive, personal, referential, spatial, causative, conditional, concessional etc. In the situations of alternation, distribution, reformulation, motivation, approximation the meaning of alternativeness undergoes different modifications. The interaction of alternativeness with other semantic categories is vividly displayed by combinative potential of Russian language units which also reveals the variety of alternative situations existing in reality.
