INTERCULTURAL AND DIDACTIC ASPECTS IN THE ADVENTURE NOVELS OF ISABEL ALLENDE

Abstract

The objective of the paper is to study the intercultural and didactic components of Isabel Allende‟s adventure novels for young readers Zorro. The birth of the Legend, The city of Beasts, The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon and The Pygmies’ Forests. The paper is the first Ukrainian academic research dedicated to the writer. Developing traditions of the Latin American literature the famous author actively uses the code of magic realism in order to demonstrate that travelling to indigenous worlds is the best pedagogy, which is able restore sense of life destroyed by Western civilization and to teach moral lessons. The above mentioned novels are united by a number of motives that convert Isabel Allende‟s books into educational Utopias set which grow out of the experience of travelling all over the world. Isabel Allende creates unforgettable images and situations and stresses the importance of emotional listening with an open heart. Native-Americans as something true, basic and human and undermines the myths created by European colonizers about the «barbaric» cultures.
