THE EXPERIENCE OF TRAVEL THINKING AND SENSE PERCEPTION OF THE SURROUNDING WORLD IN THE POSTMODERNIST TRAVEL-TEXT OF UKRAINIAN AND POLISH WRITERS
Journal Title: Наукові праці. Серія "Філологія. Літературознавство" - Year 2018, Vol 316, Issue 304
Abstract
The representation of a specific way of thinking of a writer-traveler in an artistic text. The purpose of the article is to bring into focus the wandering experience of an author-narrator in postmodern prose about the travelling written by Ukrainian and Polish authors. Methodology: comparative analysis with elements of semiotics. Scientific novelty: in postmodern travel-texts, the key notion consists not of the geographical space that is recognized by the narrator, but of the space of existential experience in the process of infinite changes. Application results: a comparative study of postmodern texts. Conclusions: in the texts of postmodern writers the process of experience connected with travel thinking and sensory perception of the world around is usually embodied by the author-narrator. Existence as movement and existence in motion are the factors that determine the reflection angle of their own travel impressions. A special role is assigned to the Other being positioned as an object of an impression to which the author demonstrates his own difference from him and the difference of his own opinion from stereotypical representations. The consistency of knowledge changes with the randomness of impressions. The attention in this particular situation is concentrated not on the existing objects and facts which require descriptions and knowledge, but on specific geographic codes which are used to read out and to create the mental perception of a writer-traveler. National and state borders lose their importance as well as the difference between their own and some other world (A. Stasіuk On the Road to Babadag, Fado; K. Vargа Goulash from the Turul, Czardas with the mangalitsa; O. Tokarchuk Runners). New borders do not usually coincide with the established geographical ones because they belong to the internal mental perception of the narrator and are used to define their own difference (M. Kidruk Mexican Chronicles; S. Zhadan Anarchy in the Ukr; E. Polozhiy Kama Sutra and embroidered shirts, The Road to Kathmandu).
