INTERTEXTUALITY AS ANALOGOUS MAPPING BETWEEN FRAMES

Abstract
The article explains the efficiency of applying the terminology and basic principles of the R. Schank’s theory of dynamic memory (according to T. Karpenko-Seccombe) and frame semantics to studying intertextual relations. Intertextuality is understood as a cognitive category, verbalized in the form of an intertextual unit. In this context, intertextuality is defined as an analogous mapping between frames. The article introduces the notions of textual and intertextual frames. The structure of such frames and analogous mappings between them are exemplified by the extracts from M. Atwood’s novel “The Handmaid’s Tale”.
