Invasive fungal infection during intensive chemotherapy in children with Nijmegen breakage syndrome - two cases report

Abstract

Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS) patients treated for malignancies face a substantial risk of severe fungal infections caused by immunodeficiency characteristic for these patients. We report two cases of female patients with NBS who developed invasive fungal infection during intensive chemotherapy. We analyze clinical characteristics, diagnostic procedures and risk factors influencing outcome of these infections.
