Investigation on the mechanical properties and microstructure<br /> of new type of fire-resistant steel containing B<br />

Abstract

The mechanical properties and microstructure of new type of fire-resistant steel at different states are investigated by using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, and the behaviors of alloying elements, B and V, in the fire-resistant steel are discussed. The results show that B addition is helpful to formation of bainite. When B is used, a new type of fire-resistant steel with low Mo content of mass fraction 0.15% is developed, which is found to have good properties. The microstructure of this steel is found to be pro-eutectoid ferrite, granular structure and granular bainite, in which M-A islands is very important to good high-temperature properties.
