ISTANBUL AND STAMBOULIOTE AS A CITY AND CIVIC IDENTITY IN A MIND AT PEACE

Abstract

The fact that Istanbul is both a Turkish-Islamic civilization and the face of the East that opens to the West are one of the most important factors shaping its urban identity. Istanbul is a tragic hero like Mumtaz. On the one hand, it is this tragedy, which was once the capital of the world's greatest great civilizations and the capital of an empire that is collapsing, and sometimes for the fear of being captured and sometimes longing for its beautiful memories. In this study, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's , one of the most important personalities of Turkish literature and intellectual life, first published novel A Mind at Peace will be examined in the context of Istanbul's city identity, the novel and its heroes. Besides this, it will be pointed out that the description to be Stambouliote in the novel and the manifestations on the heroes. Also in the last part of the work, Mumtaz's current touring route will be given with some photographs.
