IT governance as major generator of the IT value for enterprise

Abstract
IT governance and management in an enterprise plays an important part in generating value for the stakeholders. Increasingly, organizations based their operational services through its Information Systems and Information Technology that need to be managed, controlled and monitored constantly. Obtaining optimal value from the use of IT in the enterprise now requires a paradigm shift for IT management - the transition from the delivery of IT products to deliver value in the form of IT services. There are several guidelines oriented to the management and control of certain sectors of IT. One of these guidelines is COBIT 5, a framework for the governance and management of IT enterprises. In 2012 the latest version of this framework was released introducing important features. COBIT covers all activities related to IT for the IT Governance. The second approach is ITIL, which provides a consistent, and coherent framework of best practices for ITSM (IT service management) and related processes, which promotes a quality approach for achieving business effectiveness and efficiency in the use of Information Systems. COBIT and ITIL provide an integrated, top-to-bottom approach to IT governance and service management from a business perspective. When used together, the power of both approaches is amplified, with a greater likelihood of management support and direction, anda more cost-effective use of implementation resources. The purpose of this paper is to present IT as a major value generator for enterprises by using two main standards and good market practices in the field of management of the IT services, which are COBIT and ITIL.
