Ivan Franko as a Spiritual and Intellectual Creator of the Ukrainian Nation

Abstract

The article studies the role and importance of the figure of Ivan Franko in the ethnonational spiritual space of the Ukrainian people, in the process of defending of the state independence and spiritualit, in establishing of the national idea. With his scientific, literary, social, publishing and educational activities Ivan Franko grounds and practically implements conceptual basis of cultural nationalism. Thew thinker considers the creation of Ukrainian society as a cultural body and the development of ethnic collective integrity as an integration process aimed at developing a particular value system that would be perceived and learned not only by ethnic Ukrainian, but all ethnic groups residing in Ukrainian territory. Recognizing the Ukrainian people as the subject of historical action, and understanding the historical fate of Ukraine, Franko advocates the destruction of social and national oppression proclaims basic values, which should guid the development of the Ukrainian nation. According to Ivan Franko the supertask of the process of cultural solidarity community formation is to develop the conscious orientation of each of its members to personal political responsibility for the future of dismembered empires native people, the right of a nation to be the masters of their land, in their national home - their own country, the independence of Ukraine in terms of free nations. It analyzes the problems of the unity of the Ukrainian nation and the creation of nation function of intellectuals, its historical vocation. It gives arquments that Ivan Franko as an active spokesperson of cultural nationalism wanted to mobilize and unite the new creative forces, especially youth, national elite, intellectuals in order to createintegrity and unity of the Ukrainian people. It is proved that Ivan Franko's work gave the Ukrainian people understanding of their destiny, needs and objectives in the context of human history and the human conquest of the mind and the spirit, world development.
