J.-L. Nancy: Philosophical Thoughts about the Body

Abstract

The article analyzes the philosophical understanding of the body by French philosopher J.-L. Nancy. Equating the body to the infinite text, J.-L. Nancy continues to develop the ideas of J. Derrida, R. Barthes, M. Foucault and M. Merleau-Ponty. For him, the body can take the form of intent, which is not exposed to decrypt or sign, which lost meaning. Permanent establishment of a single presence is told by phrase "this is my body". J.-L. Nancy, trying to understand the "cartesian" true "body" at the heart of "husserlian" or "merlot-pontian" true flesh, wrote a "Corpus". In this work he reinterprets the dualism of mind and body, says that the line of the body separates internal and external at the same time allows them to touch each other. So, actually, it is held by logic external / internal to the limit. Philosopher distinguishes body as a coherent unity of content, means to define and shape for metaphors. It is a body-assembly and realizes itself in a "meeting place" where the "self- you touch" takes place. J.-L. Nancy says that it is the possession of the body, not the ownership over it, not only because I own body, but it owns me. In his opinion, when the body is on display for presentation and evaluation, the double-movement outside- itself and for-itself happens, providing disclosure of the nature of the self. As exposure, the body tends to write its own script.
