KACHYBEY IN THE LIGHT OF THE 15TH – 16TH CENTURIES’ SOURCES (MATERIALS FOR THE STUDIES OF THE PODOLIA AND NORTH BLACK SEA REGION HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY)

Abstract
The research deals with study of documentary sources, dated from 15th -16th centuries, which consist mentions on the settlement of Kachybey. The author researches the major historiographical studies in the field. As a result, the author concludes that the presence of the Tatar population is reflected in the local toponymy. Kachybey, Tatarka, Hadzhybeyivskyy salt lake - all bear witness to the aforementioned conclusion. There are six documents from the 15th century (the first one dates from 1431), which have mentions of the port and castle (and might be town?) of Kachybey. However, the situation has been changed over time. And the sources from the 16th century already indicate only the existence of the industrial settlement by the same name associated with the production of salt. That is why we can talk of a generational continuity of those people who lived in the this area of the Black Sea coast.
