Journal Title: Archivum Anatolicum-Anadolu Arsivleri - Year 2017, Vol 11, Issue 1

Abstract

In this study, the successful speech of Cotta to Roman people in Historiae of Sallust’s was examined. We focused on the structure of this persuasive speech and its outstanding elements. For this purpose we analyzed the speech philologically (historically, rhetorically). Historically: Cotta’s character and behavior in military and public service before consulship was narrated shortly and to imply his speech’s aim, the social and political situations at Cotta’s days were mentioned. Rhetorically: The structure of his speech and the explicandum were determined. To ensure the study more intelligible, the Turkish translation of Cotta’s speech from Latin was added.
