Journal Title: JOURNAL OF CURRENT DEBATES IN SOCIAL SCIENCES - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
Crime, as an object of study, is an interdisciplinary issue. Its causes and consequences are widely studied, as it concerns each member of society, and an increase in crime rates is usually accepted as a sign that social tensions, too, are increasing. Crime is also one of the ecological factors that determine the social health of a society. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between urban inequality and crime by looking at emprical data from years 1980 to 2015. Within the study urbanisation, education, unemployment, and wages, are taken as determinants of urban inequality. To our conclusions, all the determinants of urban inequality have a direct influence on crime. We have seen significantly a positive relationship between urbanisation and crime.
