“Kimsenin Yüzünü Görmedim, [Çocuk] Dayimdandir”: 1856’da Konya Akşehir’de, Ermeni Kilisesi’nde Çözülememiş Bir Dava

Abstract
This article discusses the content, the language and the context of an arz-ı mahzar, a petition, written from Konya Akşehir Armenians to the Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul in 1856. It is written in Armeno-Turkish. The document is part of the Patriarchal Archive of Istanbul, which is in Boghos Nubar Library (Paris). An unresolved court case including incest, adultery and infanticide was reported to the Patriarchate of Istanbul and the advice of Patriarch was asked. The document provides some valuable insights regarding the lawmaking and juridical practices in the provinces even before the ratification of the Armenian Nizamname.
