KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT - CONCEPT FOR CREATING A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Abstract

We live at the time of faster, more dramatic, more complex, and unpredictable changes. Technological, market - economical, political, social and global factors, all influence the speed of changes, as well as they form the theory and practice of economy and management. The concept “Knowledge management” is getting more and more one of the key concepts in creating competitive advantage in the new economy and modern management. All are now rushing to change their attitude towards knowledge so as to establish an integrated knowledge management function, which will affect all parts of the organization and carry out routing information system towards a system of knowledge management. In this paper, basic elements and alignment of knowledge and change management are shown. Although it is clear that these two specialized management disciplines have a tight connection, it is necessary to analyze this connection more in dept and to define what knowledge is needed for changes and what changes produce knowledge. New ideas and changes that spring of them demand new knowledge and enable efficiency and competitive advantage. Also, this paper presents concrete examples of the importance of the use of certain elements of intellectual capital as well as an example of an organization that effectively uses the concept of knowledge management.
