Kompetencje słowotwórcze dzieci w normie intelektualnej na przykładzie kategorii nazw narzędzi

Abstract

Word formation plays an important role in the linguistic and cognitive development of children because the ability to interpret derivational patterns and active use of the rules of creating derivatives are the most important display of linguistic competence at lexical level. The purpose of the article is to present linguistic interpretation of selected names of tools from the vocabulary of 7–9 year old children. I will pay attention mainly to the existence of word formative structures in the linguistic awareness of children of these ages. I will also examine the question of whether the newly created words are formed according to word formative patterns of the Polish language.
