Abstract

The article deals with the problems of the motive analysis in stories of Gr.Tutunnik. The article summarizes the connection between the motive and the plot. The accent is made on existential outlook of the author. The purpose of the research is to trace the influence of the literary period of peculiarities of the formation and development of the image of death in the novels of Tutunnik. The object of the study is a series of thanatological motives (death, suicide, etc.) in the literature of neo-realism. The subject of the study is the image of death in the small prose of the Ukrainian writer Grigor Tutunnik. According to the goal, the following tasks were determined: to investigate the literary background of the writer’s work; to determine the meaning of thanatological images for the literature of the neo-realism; to trace the peculiarities of the formation of the concept of «death» in the novels of the author. Writers of the twentieth century were mainly interested in the social preconditions of death or individual meaningful questions of being, which often provide for negative self-negation. In Grigor Tutunnik’s prose, the motive of death with all autobiographical connotations is manifested both at the level of text and at the level of subtext, which allows to interpret this motive as central in his works. Archetypal plots with deaths (physical, spiritual, moral...) are tragically discerned and overwhelm the stories of Grigor Tutunnik, where one of the most terrible problems of mankind is so sharply posed by the writer: the child — and the war, the child — and death.
