KYRYLO STUDYNSKYI AND CONDITIONS OF SOCIAL AND POLITICAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN WESTERN UKRAINE 1939–1941

Abstract
It is important to appeal to the role of person in the history of Ukraine, extraordinary figures of the past are important for the future, their creative achievements have an actual significance for the present. The history of individuals, their creative potential and shapes our history, allows you to withstand the challenges of our time. Kyrylo Studynskyi was publical and cultural figure, belongs to the cohort of those remarkable figures of the past, which in the difficult conditions of socio-political transformations of 1939–1941 that took place in Western Ukraine, tried not only to be scholars, but also to be active in the life of that time, sometimes even to support the Soviet government, to contribute to the sovietization processes. K. Studynskyi was guided not by a purely personal factor, trying to obtain honors and dedication from the new government, but he, like no other, was well aware of the need to unite the West Ukrainian lands with the Great Ukraine as a strategic step, the way to the practical realization of the idea of the unity of Ukraine. Cooperation with the Soviet authorities was pragmatic. K. Studynskyi tried to use certain powers in favor of Ukrainians. However, he never succeeded in becoming “his” for the Soviet authorities.
