La Dimension communicationnelle de l’argot des musiciens
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The Communicative Dimension of Musician’s Slang “Slang is firing all wood... [...] he recovers advertising, he did the same with history, fashion, politics, wars, rain and good weather. He picks at the hazard what amuses him, which sings in his ear, shamelessly. He practices burglary, robbery, trailer... he mockery, he swindles and sometimes, years later, he fuels some pretty words in the dictionary of the Academy”, thus Alphonse Boudard [1] is expressed in the preface to the dictionary devoted to French slang. More than slang in general, what interests us here is the slang in the middle of the music. Is there a slang or jargon specific to musicians? What is its function? Our article is part of the information and communication sciences and our hypothesis is the following: is there not a communicative dimension in the use of a musician’s slang? Does not the slang of the musicians testify to a certain form of sociability? Conversely, do words or phrases around the world of music contribute to common slang? Our remarks will be organized into three parts, first of all, questioning the musicians’ use of slang words or expressions, then a possible use of slang in a collection of journalistic criticisms devoted to music and to its interpreters, and finally, the diffusion of the terms coming from the universe of the music inscribing itself in the current slang.
