Lack of effect of some dopamine and non-dopamine receptor ligands on amphetamine-induced changes in the rat brain neuropeptide Y system.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2005, Vol 57, Issue 6
Abstract
None of the receptor ligands studied: the dopamine D(2) antagonist eticlopride, D(2)/D(3) antagonist haloperidol, alpha(1)-adrenergic antagonist prazosin, N-methyl-D-aspartate antagonist MK-801, 5-HT(2)/D(2) antagonist mianserin, D(2)/D(3) agonist quinpirole and alpha(2)-adrenergic agonist clonidine co-administrated with repeated amphetamine (AMPH) injections blocked the AMPH-induced decrease in the striatal and nucleus accumbens neuropeptide Y (NPY) levels. Only the D(1)/D(5) receptor antagonist SCH 23390 insignificantly attenuated this effect what suggests that these dopamine receptor subtypes may partially mediate AMPH effect on NPY. Moreover, the results of multiple administrations of the receptor ligands to control rats indicate that the NPY systems in both structures under study are modulated in the same manner by dopaminergic activity and differentially by adrenergic, N-methyl-D-aspartate and serotonergic activity.

Effect of p-isopropoxyphenylsuccinimide monohydrate on the anticonvulsant action of carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and valproate in the mouse maximal electroshock-induced seizure model.
This study was designed to determine the effects of p-isopropoxyphenylsuccinimide monohydrate (IPPS) on the protective action of four classical antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and valproate)...
Taurine prevents ethanol-induced alterations in lipids and ATPases in rat tissues.
The study investigates the cytoprotective effect of taurine on ethanol-induced alterations in lipids and enzymes involved in ion-transport in rat tissues. Male albino rats were divided into 4 groups (n = 8) and maintaine...
Influence of aripiprazole and olanzapine on behavioral dysfunctions of adolescent rats exposed to stress in perinatal period.
Background: Schizophrenia is a group of mental disorders of unclear origin, affecting around 1% of global population, most commonly young people. Of various treatment methods, pharmacotherapy using atypical neuroleptics...
Effect of cysteamine on bile secretion in the rat.
The effect of cysteamine, a specific somatostatin depletor, on biliarysecretion was studied in urethane-anesthetized rats. Different groups of rats received ip cysteamineat 25, 100 or 340 mg/kg just before bile collectio...
Naloxone precipitates nicotine abstinence syndrome and attenuates nicotine-induced antinociception in mice.
The present study focused on the evaluation of a role of opioid system in nicotine-induced antinociception and physical dependence in mice. The results indicate that nicotine (3 mg/kg) produced a significant antinocicept...
