LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL ANALYSIS OF THE PROJECT GROUP MEMBERS’ IN ACCORDANCE WITH DISC ASSESSMENT TOOL

Abstract

Issues of leadership and administration are quite relevant in nowadays society. Among the main components of the leadership itself, there are such as: the ability to accurately evaluate the situation and competence to find out right solutions for existing issues. Also, the aptitude for the implementation needed motivation for personnel, who subordinate to the manager deliberately and willingly, which leads to meeting the group objectives in shortest terms and most effective way. Nowadays, such leader’s features are distinguished as fundamental ones: assertiveness, integrity, inner motivation, self-esteem, mental capacity, creativity, adaptability, and professional field competency. However, in our opinion, an effective leader cannot be distinguished using these criteria only. The prosperity of his potential also includes other benchmarks such as: inner factors (like personality type) and externalities (like social roles, surroundings and cultural specificity, etc.) should also be taken into account. The objective of this article is to identify and analyze the pattern of the occupied position and influencing inner and external factors. To date, many methods of identifying personality types and leadership predisposition are available; one of such is the DISC model, which was developed by W. M. Marston. The research, which provided a profile of “simple” and “combined” personality type, using the model mentioned above, is conducted on the example of students of the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, who also serve as members of the team, taking part in the international contest of marketing, PR project and start-ups named “The Golden Compass”. The results of the research serve as another evidence of the statement that the leader becomes one not only based on the inner factors but also influenced by the externalities.
