LITERARY TRANSFORMATION OF THE CANONICAL TEXT

Abstract

The article is devoted to the theoretical aspect of literary transformation of the canonical text to which belong the scriptures. The material for investigation is the ancient Ukrainian literature The biblical text, entering into the sphere of literary creativity, not simply commented upon or interpreted and transformed ac-cording to the ideological and artistic intent. Literary works of ukrainian medieval and baroque affect its intertextuality, the domi-nant element in the universe of the mind which is the holy scriptures. Biblical themes, scenes, images had the original texts of writers contributed in the modeling of artistic writing and narrative strategies, and the Bible itself was seen as the authoritative source for the expression of important thoughts and religious feelings. The most common forms of borrowing from the Bible were: direct quotation, paraphrase, allusion, association, the use of bibli-cal symbols and allegories, the appeal to biblical vocabulary, stylistics, phraseology. Literary transformation of the biblical text has become a notable event in the history of ancient Ukrainian literature. The variety of forms that creative process testified to the artis-tic possibilities of native writing, which resonated with the global, especially european, literary experience of the medieval and ba-roque era. The processing of individual plots and images borrowed from the scriptures Ukrainian writers, had a national flavor.
