Loads in the design of flight vehicles
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2010, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
The calculation of flight loads is a critical part of air vehicle design. On the other hand, the prediction of accurate loads is a sophisticated and complex process that requires skilled and experienced engineers. They must integrate results from wind tunnel tests, computer simulations, historical data and empirical formulations into a number of loads cases that provide a realistic assessment of the flight vehicle’s environment. Under these conditions, the vehicle must satisfy requirements imposed by regulatory agencies as part of the vehicle certification process. Loads and boundary conditions can be associated to either the finite element model or the underlying geometry. By associating loads and boundary conditions to the geometry the finite element model mesh and elements can be modified without redefining and applying the loads to the model. Loads and boundary conditions are associated to the model geometry by default.

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PROFESSOR ELIE CARAFOLI’S ACTIVITY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EDUCATION FOCUSING THE PROPULSION SYSTEMS FIELD
The intent of this paper is to reveal other features of Professor Elie Carafoli’s complex personality, his devotion and fully commitment to the development of the aeronautical university education; the focus on the propu...
Verification of Checking of the Validity and Effectiveness of Damage
This paper presents a methodology for identifying some stress concentrators based on the modal analysis performed using MSC Patran and MSC Nastran programs. The influence of a beam crack on its own frequency is practical...
AEROTAXI ground static test and finite element model validation
In this presentation, we will concentrate on typical Ground Static Test (GST) and Finite Element (FE) software comparisons. It is necessary to note, that standard GST are obligatory for any new aircraft configuration. We...
The unsteady turbulent flows structure study present status
The processes of heat transfer and hydraulic plays a very important role in the design and prototyping of aerospace technology. In most cases this technique works under significant unsteady conditions. Steady approach fo...
On the evaluation of mechanical properties of honeycombs by using finite element analyses
This paper presents some general two- and three-dimensional finite element models to study the equivalent orthotropic mechanical properties of honeycombs. The models are developed on a representative volume element with...
