History is a science which exists with humanity and from now one it will exist too. History has emerged with human’s wonder and asking questions about their past. Human and community know themseves and their environment by means of history. The history illuminate the future. History keeps the community alive. History is a bridge between past and future. History holds people’s memory alive and it increases the human love. History is the memory of a nation. The nation stand by means of history so national history is important and necessary for the nation. The source and support of national history is local history. Local history is to evaulate the events with local accessments, which occur in a local place or in a city. People living in that area want to delightfully and willingly bring out the historical monuments of the place where they live, because they are curious about written and oral expressions. This willing and desire encourages people living in that region and it is also incentive for that people . We see that local history studies have developed and spread in Turkey as it is in the world in twentieth century. Halkevleri have been founded specifically to investigate popular culture in the context of the Republic's cultural policy, which has made a significant contribution to local history studies and played an important role in the emergence of local history. Gaziantep Halkevi has published Başpınar Magazine where Gaziantep has a wealth of local history, and this work has come up to date.
