Long – term observation of Class III malocclusion

Abstract
[b] Aim:[/b] to present skeletal, dentoalveolar and soft tissueprofile changes in a 7-year-old patient with class III malocclusionduring an 11-year-observation period coveringgrowth and then treatment with fixed appliances. [b]Materialand methods[/b]: the changes were assessed using models andthe cephalograms performed during the observation prior totreatment (at the age of 7, 10 and 13 years), after treatmentwith fixed appliances and during retention (at the age of 15and 18 years). The cephalograms were analysed accordingto the methods and norms proposed by Guyer et al. and Thilander et al. Skeletal maturity was assessed based on the method described by Baccetti et al. Measurement valuesobtained before and after treatment have been discussed and presented in tables[b]Results: [/b]improvement was observedin occlusal conditions and face profile due to fixed appliances with Class III elastics despite the fact that the treatment was started after growth spurt and exacerbating signs of Class III discrepancy were noted during earlier observations.(Orthod.
