L’utilisation de termes argotiques à connotation sexuelle chez les poètes latins : une manière de véhiculer une émotion ou une idée

Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2016, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

The Latin poems, which named and described in several ways without prevarication male and female sex organs, were legion. We especially think of Catullus, Ovid, Martial and Juvenal, who, to be classici poetae, are none the less daring poets who felt no fear at the thought of offending their readership. By the depth of their intertextual games, their contextual distancing effects and by mastering those who employed them in literary, slang words with sexual connotations are, for the historian and philologist, valuable elements to the deepening our knowledge of both lexical, linguistic, stylistic and cultural of Latin literature. As for using sexual coarseness, those who use it in their writings acknowledge the difficulty of handling their pens as their emotions, thereby admitting that it is laborious but effective and reckless to want at all costs translate strong anger in words such as mentula and culus.
