Abstract

Przemysław Waingertner MAJOR WILHELM WILCZYŃSKI – THE PARTICIPANT AND THE WITNESS OF THE GREAT WAR AND OF THE BATTLE ABOUT BORDERS OF SECOND POLISH REPUBLIC An armed act of Poles during World War I and the fight of the boundaries of the Second Republic is very interesting Polish history thread in the 20th century. Events associated with it were also recorded by the participants – Legionnaires, Poles serving in the Russian, German and Austrian armies and soldiers of the Polish Army. Such memories are major William Wilczynski’s (1897–1972) diaries. They cover the period of his service in the Polish Legions during the Great War and in the Polish Army in 1918–1921. Now they are in the possession of his son, Przemyslaw Wilczynski. These Diaries are a valuable historical source for the history of the First Brigade of the Polish Legions and its participation in the battles during the World War I, as well as to the history of the Polish-Ukrainian war (1918–1919) and Polish-Soviet war.
