Management of retroperitoneal tumours at a tertiary care hospital

Abstract
The retroperitoneum is bounded anteriorly by the peritoneal sac and its contents, is separated from the thorax superiorly by the muscular diaphragm and is continuous with the extraperitoneal portions of the pelvis inferiorly. The body wall creates the posterior and lateral limits of the retroperitoneum, and incisions through the posterolateral abdominal wall, or flank, provide the most direct routes to the structures of the retroperitoneum. The cases of of retro peritoneal tumour's cases have been collected and studied from patients admitted to teaching hospitals attached to Medical College. Detailed examination of cases done and data entered in proforma sheets for analytical study. All relevant investigations were under taken. Primary tumours of the retroperitoneum were less common (23.3%), ‘compared to secondary retroperitoneal tumours (76.7%). In our study 80% of the cases were operable and about 20% were inoperable
