MANUFACTURING a DAMAGED SKULL with 3D PRINTER and IMPLANT DESIGN
Journal Title: International Journal of 3D Printing Technologies and Digital Industry - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
As a result of various injuries in the community, some people are suffering from the damages that need implantation. In this study, applications including how to use 3D printers in the implant design process and control using 3D laser scanning method have been carried out. In the study, the data of a computerized tomography (CT) image of a skull of a patient who had been hit in the right detention zone was regenerated in digital. Obtained data was printed with polymer printer (PLA) with 3D printer. The output of the skull printed with a 3D printer was found to be coincident with the data contained in the digital media and the received output was measurable. In addition, Ti-6Al-4V biocompatible prosthesis was designed according to this damaged area. It has been seen that 3D printers can be safely used especially in medical field. It was also seen that a design process like this one could reduce the operation time on the patient and the implant control could be done before the operation with less intervention in the damaged area
