Abstract
The design operation involved in systematic design technique initially requires, the problem definition and formulisations afterwards, conceptual design stage is needed to obtain alternative solutions. Varying decision-making technique may be used to find a solution in according with the specifications and limitations of the alternative product design solutions. In this study, a design process model based on expert system is development to select the proper system components of machine tools. This model consist of specification, function representations and expert system decision making mechanism. This developed model is applied to the design of classic and CNC turning tools. A proper design solution according to design specifications is determined using programming. This programming possesses two different knowledge bases for each classical and CNC turning tools
