Matlab’s GA and Optimization Toolbox: A Fourbar Mechanism Application
Journal Title: International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
This study presents an optimization approach for synthesis of planar mechanisms. A four bar mechanism is chosen for an application example. This mechanism is studied with the constraints assigned. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied during optimization study. GA in Optimization Toolbox is then compared with nonlinear constrained numerical optimization command; fmincon in Matl ab©. Different case studies are performed by considering different target points. These mechanisms are drawn using Excel© spread sheet to see their animations. An optimization example is presented here. Performances of both algorithms are then compared in terms of coupler curves precision points. Their use in designing a four bar mechanism is explored for its further use.

A Note on Entropy Subsethood Relationship
We comment on subsethood measure defined by Kosko and Young and give some new aspects of these measures. Finally we would like to discard the entropy subsethood relationship established by the authirs. We present some pr...
Predicting Student Success in Courses via Collaborative Filtering
Based on their skills and interests, students’ success in courses may differ greatly. Predicting student success in courses before they take them may be important. For instance, students may choose elective courses that...
Improving Intrusion Detection using Genetic Linear Discriminant Analysis
The objective of this research is to propose an efficient soft computing approach with high detection rates and low false alarms while maintaining low cost and shorter detection time for intrusion detection. Our results...
Statistical Methods for Quantitatively Detecting Fungal Disease from Fruits’ Images
In this paper we have proposed statistical methods for detecting fungal disease and classifying based on disease severity levels. Most fruits diseases are caused by bacteria, fungi, virus, etc of which fungi are respons...
Using Word Embeddings for Ontology Enrichment
Word embeddings, distributed word representations in a reduced linear space, show a lot of promise for accomplishing Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks in an unsupervised manner. In this study, we investigate if the...
